Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms finished airing and it was an amazing show! I couldn't wait for the english subs to be completed and just watched the raw online on youtube. Although I couldn't understand what they were saying, I got the gist of it for the most part. But now I can go back to reality...ah (T-T). Here is my review of the drama!
Story: 8/10
There are already a lot of summaries written about the drama online and it's hassle for me to write my own because the truth is, the story is complicated and long. It starred Yang Mi, Mark Chao, Dilraba Dilmurat, Vengo Gao, Ken Chang, and lots of new/experienced actors and actresses. For a drama with 58 eps, I can only sum it up like this:
- Love affairs between immortal beings
- Lots of side characters/subplots
- Mix between CGI, martial arts, & historical content
Spoiler (highlight for more):I learned that no one really dies
Here is the whole entire cast!
I also didn't forget to add the villains.
Since it is not set in the mortal realm, don't expect it to have realistic sets or correct historical context/references. I still found it enjoyable to watch and thought that the drama made a good use of recycling the sets where it didn't seem familiar all the time. Overall, I thought that the drama did a great way at delivering a love story between immortals that transcend multiple lifetimes and bringing the fantasy world to life.
Character Development/Acting performances: 8/10
And the best hair award goes to....YE HUA!
Mark Chao plays two character, Mo Yuan and Ye Hua. I thought that the characters Mo Yuan/Ye Hua was very similar in terms of their facial expressions and personalities, but Mark did a great job at making them different through settle expressions. And since we see more of Ye Hua's character, his character development can better seen throughout the show compared to Mo Yuan. Ye Hua basically learns how to love and protect his loved ones while Mo Yuan still has a lot of years to catch up and to learn haha.
I didn't know much about Mark Chao as an actor, but I will now keep track of his future upcoming projects. I thought that he delivered a great performance of the two characters. It's also ironic to see him laugh and be playful behind the scenes when his characters are always looking serious.
Yang Mi plays Bai Qian Qian who undergo several identities and have different names. She is the queen of the female monarch in the Fox Clan and is basically, badass in the sense she ain't taking
Notable characters:
Dilraba Dilmurat as Bai Fengjiu
(the cute red fox, niece of Bai Qian Qian)
Vengo Gao as Dong Hua
Visual: 10/10
This drama is so visually appealing that you could just stare at the faces of the actors/actresses and the background settings. It's a nice looking drama like Princess Weiyoung where you are constantly admiring the beauty of everything and everyone. All of the characters are so clean cut and perfect with their hair, make up, and clothes. So it is funny when viewers can point out what is out of place.
Overall grading: B+
